This is my go-to simple recipe for making fresh cocktail sauce for a classic shrimp cocktail. This sauce is also good spread on top of your homemade meatloaf!
TIPS: This can be made several hours ahead and kept refrigerated, covered, until needed. Also try to buy prepared horseradish (usually in a jar in the refrigerator section of the grocery stores’ deli section). You can use other jarred horseradish found in the condiments section of your store, and they work fine, but they are not quite as strong in flavor so you’ll need to use more. Stay away from anything called “horseradish sauce” as it is weak as it is made into a sauce already.
Ingredients:
1/2 C ketchup
1/2 C bottled chili sauce (such as Heinz)
3 Tbsp prepared horseradish
1 Tbsp fresh squeezed lemon juice (or more to taste)
1/8 tsp salt (to taste) and pinch of pepper
Mix all ingredients in a small bowl and refrigerate until ready to serve.
Enjoy!
