I have been making this simple rice recipe for years. I came across it in my Grandmothers cookbook from the 1970’s. While this is not at all an Asian fried rice recipe, the rice flavor and texture resembles a fried rice dish for some reason. It goes well paired with any meat, especially if the meat has an Asian sauce of some sort, such as teriyaki or Asian barbecue sauce.
TIPS: While you may be tempted to, do NOT stir the rice while it bakes in the oven. It will absorb all the liquid over time and turn out just fine being left alone. Some ovens are different so it could take up to an hour for the rice to cook through. Taste a bit from the corner of the dish to be sure it is done.
Oven “Fried” Rice
Ingredients
- 3 C water
- 1 1/2 C uncooked long grain white rice
- 1/3 C low sodium Soy Sauce
- 1/3 C vegetable oil
- 1 envelope of dry Lipton Onion Soup Mix
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray a 13X9 inch baking dish with cooking spray.
- Put all of the ingredients into the baking dish and stir until dry soup mix has dissolved and all of the ingredient are blended together.
- Place baking dish uncovered into the oven and bake for about 50 minutes. Do not stir while baking. Remove when rice is tender, no liquid remains, and it has started to brown on the edges.
- Enjoy!
